New Year, New Decade, New Beginning…
Welcome to LordDewi.com. This website is going to be my personal blog. Who am I you ask? I’m David Devaney, Jr. Well, you ask, why don’t you put your blog on your website then, www.daviddevaney.com? I honestly don’t have a good answer for that. I had reserved LordDewi.com and figured, why not devote that to my blog. Maybe I want to keep it a little separate from myself so that only people who really want to read about me can find it. I’m not really sure but that’s what it is.
Now I know your next question…Who the HEDoubleHockeySticks is Lord Dewi?!? Well I answered that in a Blog post on MySpace back on October 5, 2005. Yes, I know you don’t want to go search for that, even if you are my friend on MySpace so here is what I wrote back then to describe Lord Dewi.
I’m sure some of you are wondering who Lord Dewi is. Well pop a squat and prepare yourself for a little history lesson.
Back on March 1, 2005 I was doing research for a book I decided to write, that’s a whole ‘nother (wow that word looks weird written…but that’s what people say) story. I was on Wikipedia and discovered it was Saint David’s Day. Well being that my name happened to be David too, I decided to take a few minutes and read up on my namesake. Here is one of the things I found:
“Saint David’s Day (Welsh: Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant – “Day of the Festival of Saint David”) is the day that the patron saint of Wales, Saint David, is celebrated. It falls on 1 March every year.”
I clicked the link for Saint David to find out more. I found that:
“The best-known miracle associated with St David is said to have taken place when he was preaching in the middle of a large crowd. When those at the back complained that they could not see or hear him, the ground on which he stood is reputed to have risen up to form a small hill so that everyone had a good view. The village which is said to stand on the spot today is known as Llanddewi Brefi. A more mundane version of this story is that he simply recommended that the synod participants move to the hilltop.”
AND when it was time for him to pass on his last words were:
“Be steadfast, brothers, and do the little things”
I also learnt (blame the British version of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for that word) that Dewi definitely is the Welsh Name for David and when I clicked the link for the name Dewi I discovered that “In Celtic mythology, Dewi was an ancient god, worshipped primarily in Wales. He was represented by a Great Red Serpent; this symbol in the form of a dragon is on the official emblem of Wales.”
This in turn led me to do more research on Wales. I found the Famous Welsh website where I found some really cool graphics and until I got into You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown I had them as the backgrounds on my computers and my phone.
Oh, so back to Lord Dewi. I moved on to other things, of course remembering the new things I’d learnt. Then when my bestest friend Sam introduced me to Kingdom of Loathing, the most awesomest game, I needed a name. I chose Lord Dewi of Masticatopia. Lord to make me sound powerful, heh, Dewi for obvious reasons, not just because it was the name of a god and a saint, and of Masticatopia because I chose to be a Pastamancer, and if you can’t figure that out you should probably stop reading my limited Blogs.
So there you have it. Any questions? There will be a quiz on this at the end of the week.
=========================================
Well now you know where I got the name Lord Dewi. While I stopped playing Kingdom of Loathing a long time ago I have used that as my Username on a number of sites since then. At one point a few people even called me that, which meant I finally had a Nickname. Unfortunately that didn’t last long.
I hope that clears THAT up. Now on to the reason for this website.
The purpose of this website is so that I can write more often and get my thoughts out of my head. Most times I will share these with anyone interested in reading, sometimes I will keep them private. This blog is the start of the Re-Invention of Myself. I followed the road most travelled when I chose it 20 or so years ago. I’ve realized that I should have taken the road less travelled. Following my ambitions, finding myself. I cannot honestly say that I don’t regret doing this but as always happens with life it’s not possible to change the past, until Doc Brown does actually invent that time travelling Delorean. So for now, I will be working on re-inventing myself and trying to find my way back to that road less travelled.
I invite you to follow me on this journey.
